Morning Bird Walk
MORNING BIRD WALK

Rietvlei Wetland Reserve

Join the Friends of Rietvlei for a bird walk in Rietvlei on Saturday 18 May, facilitated by Tim Ponton. The walk will be roughly 2.5 hours long, following the easy path to the peninsula and the bird hides, and is sure to guarantee some great wetland sightings.

This event is free to members of the Friends of Rietvlei, while non-members will need to pay the Table Bay Nature Reserve entrance fee at the gate of the reserve. Contact Tim via 076 645 6045 or timjponton@gmail.com to book. Don’t forget to bring your binoculars!

Botanical Walk
BOTANICAL WALK

Date: Saturday 15 March 2025 09:00 – 10:00

Sunset Beach, Milnerton

Petra Broddle, Chairman of the Friends of Blaauwberg Conservation Area and leader of the local CREW group, will be leading a short botanical walk for members and local residents at Sunset Beach, Milnerton. The quest is to find out what may be flowering at the start of the autumn season in the Sunset Beach dune area.

There is no cost to join the walk, but booking is required. Email flora@bca.org.za to book or obtain further information on this walk.

Wolraad Woltemade Walk
THE FIRST HEROIC RESCUE IN THE CAPE BY WOLRAAD WOLTEMADE WALK

Rietvlei Boma, Table Bay Nature Reserve

On 1 June 1773 Wolraad Woltemade rescued 14 drowning seamen from the ship “De Jonge Thomas”, which had run aground on the beach in Table Bay, north of the Salt River’s mouth. Marthinus van Bart has commemorated Woltemade’s heroism in his latest book “Wolraad Woltemade, 250 Gedenkboek”.

AGM
FRIENDS OF RIETVLEI 2025 AGM

Join us for our annual AGM, after which we will enjoy a talk by a Vula Environmental Services representative on the dune rehabilitation project that is ongoing along the Table View beachfront. Following the talk, please join us for a leisurely bird walk down to the Friends’ Bird Hide. Refreshments will be provided.
